Is it legal to trade mammoth ivory?
Yes*. The import, export, sale, purchase, barter, possession or ownership of mammoth ivory is 100% legal.
Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) is an extinct species of mammals from approximately 10,000 – 50,000 years ago. Commerce in mammoth ivory is not restricted by “CITES” (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, also known as the “Washington Convention”) nor are there any other legal limitations placed on mammoth ivory.
In over 20 years in this market, we have never experienced problems with the export and/or import of mammoth ivory due to the fact that we possess all legal documentation and licenses.
However, you are advised to act responsibly and check with your own customs department prior to purchase.
*Except for the enacted state ivory laws in the states of New Jersey (USA), California (USA) and New York (USA) as of 2018.
