This is an unusal round piece of a Siberian woolly mammoth tusk (Mammuthus primigenius). This is the section of a tusk that is usually hidden from view, since it sits deep within the skull (pulp cavity). One can also see a small “bump” on one side – it is a natural deformation upon growth which is not seen often. The inside of this piece has a very unusual green colour. Despite the cracks on the cross-cut section, the ivory of this piece is rock-solid and completely dry. Please carefully look at the pictures for precise dimensions. The colour of the outer layer of bark is a beautiful mix of white, caramel, brown and black.
